Self-drive hire
You hire it, you run it
Self-drive plant hire is for contractors and competent operators who already have the ticket and want the machine on site without one of our operators.
Competence and tickets
The person operating the machine must be competent for that class of plant. A current CPCS, NPORS or equivalent card for the machine you’re hiring is the usual evidence. If you’re a homeowner or self-builder without a ticket, operated hire is the safer route — we’ll send an operator with the machine.
Hired-in plant insurance
You must insure the machine while it is on hire. That means a hired-in plant (or hired-in plant and equipment) policy covering the replacement value of the machine, from delivery until we collect it. Your public liability cover is not the same thing.
If you haven’t got hired-in plant insurance, ask us about cover before the machine leaves the yard. Do not assume the machine is insured just because you’ve hired it.
ID and account details
We’ll need ID and account details before the first hire. For limited companies that’s usually company details and a named hirer; for individuals, photo ID and proof of address. A deposit or account application may apply — we’ll tell you when you book.
Daily checks
Check oil, water, greasing points, tracks or tyres, pins and attachments at the start of each day. Report damage or faults straight away. Don’t keep working a machine that’s leaking, unsafe or throwing warnings.
Fuel policy
Machines are normally supplied with fuel and should come back in the same state (full-to-full). If we have to refuel after collection, fuel is charged on. Confirm when you book — don’t assume.
Off-hire procedure
Call us to off-hire — don’t just leave the machine and assume the hire has stopped. Give us access to collect, remove your own locks, and keep the area clear. Hire continues until we have a clear off-hire and can get to the machine.
